We don’t use the word much any longer, Craft. We are an email and microwave society, we want what we want fast, and preferably easy. Craft is a word that shouts patience and time.
We believe that we can master almost any job, especially one of those sales jobs. There are too many books one can read today, all purporting to teach us the secrets to ‘sales.’
Craft comes from a German word that means strength and power. A craftsman is never satisfied, he is always searching for perfection, never fully satisfied because he is always learning, always searching for the ideal.
Sales is like that. The best sales people I know are always studying, learning, teaching and applying new techniques and helping others understand their craft. They are so energized and energizing, they are like evangelists for their craft…’why would anyone want to be anything else?’…is their view of the world. They are modern day craftsmen.
If you are lucky to work for someone who understands that their job is a craft, and not a job—hold on for the ride.
