I am easily entertained. Give me a pile of dirt and a string, and I can make a game out of it.
And I like most movies I see, some more than others, sure. But I recommend very few movies because our tastes are so different, what I like, you don’t, etc. Plus the concept of [tag]“Building Expectations Too High”[/tag] kicks in and ruins the experience for you. You expect too much.
I am recommending [tag]The Dish[/tag] for the following three reasons.
1. [tag]Patrick Warburton[/tag]. He plays at being an actor…sort of like, ‘can you believe they are paying me to do this?’ I smile each time he speaks.
2. Historical Drama. I have already written about the moon landing, yes it did occur, and how it impacted us baby boomers in such dramatic ways. But, I missed the historical significance of little [tag]Parkes, New South Wales, Australia[/tag], without THE dish, none of us would have seen the moon landing. Any time I learn some more history, well and good. It is set in 1969, a magical year to be sure.
3. A combination love story (for chicks), adventure movie (will they land ok?), technological story (math freaks will love the blackboard scenes), history drama (for those of us who are tired of [tag]Cate Blanchette[/tag] dominating historical dramas) and travelogues (set in Australia). It has everything.
But mostly, it is a writer’s comedy. There are so many clever lines given up as throwaway comments that you have to either turn up the volume or rent it again.
Enjoy.

As I recall, string and dirt was all we could afford.
