I’ve been sick for a few days which is why I haven’t posted anything. Being sick makes me all owl-y; I lose any pretense of goodwill and good humor. When I am sick I want to write posts like “The Two Most Obnoxious Men on TV,” or “Spring is Pothole Season in Minnesota.”
Today, I read [tag]Jacqui Tom[/tag]‘s very good blog [tag]The Office Newb[/tag] and the article on [tag]Age: The New Glass Ceiling[/tag]. Jacqui is experiencing firsthand what I experienced over 30 years ago as an AF Lieutenant…realizing that, in many jobs, seniority is rewarded more than results. How unfair is THAT?? Back then, I asked myself if I could really wait 10-15 more years before having a true leadership position. I said I couldn’t and got out of the Air Force. The conviction of youth.
What would have happened, I am wondering today, if someone had given me the advice I like to give young people who wonder why they are not doing better in their job:
Go to the Mirror, Look Yourself in the Eye, and say[tag] This Is All My Fault[/tag]. Take responsibility.
