Thank you, well said. You must have been privy to my experience. The article expresses exactly what transpired.
I went through all of the bullying phases and finally resigned, suffice to say, if all one does all day at work is to cover their rear, then that is not the place for me.
It took me four years of relentless bullying to make that discovery.
The decision to resign was the most stressful and difficult professional decision I have ever made, but for me, it was the right decision.
It was either my income or my health. Unfortunately for other targets/victims, they may not have the option.
As far as I am concerned, I think bullying is criminal behaviour, no matter how you slice it.
I am forever changed by this experience and I feel psychologically abused and vulnerable. If one has never experienced bullying, then one can not fully appreciate the effects.

Great story and the line...'didn't feel like getting yelled at today" is classic. I am betting lots of people are nodding their heads up and down reading that one.

This is an excellent piece. One of my clients is a bully in her own workplace and I watch the way she handles her people - and tries to handle me. It isn't that she isn't a good person, because she is. For the thick skinned members of her staff, it's an excellent work environment. But, when I asked one of her staff the other day why a certain question we had to answer wasn't pursued, her answer was that she "didn't feel like getting yelled at today." Now, that is counterproductive!

She isn't particularly petty about it. She is the only client I ever just hung up on in the middle of a conversation. She called back to ask if the line had dropped on us and I told her that the line dropped because I hung up. Within five minutes we were talking again on the project, but she was a whole lot easier to work with.
