In my mid-20’s, when I still had patience, I struggled for an entire Saturday morning trying to replace a screen on a screen door. It was soooo frustrating, because just when one side would get in the little groove thing-y, the other side would pop out. Grrrrr.

Feeling no shame or embarrassment, I loaded it up finally, and went to the hardware store, and watched Old Man Deke go zip-zip-lickety-split and the screen was in and secure. He had the tool, which looked like this. Although he didn’t quite pat me on the head and say “there you go, Sonny,” he may as well had. I felt this smart.

I thought of this last night as I was trying to re-wind our kinked up garden hose. Even though I learned just last year, that a wringing-out-clothes motion often will take the kinks out, that only works about half the time, for me.

If there is a tool for this that I don’t know about, and not one of those take-up spool things either, maybe a kink-removing technique passed down from father-to-son in your family, will you please let me know?

Don’t even get me started on Christmas tree light management.
