This is not a trick question. As far as I know, Blind Eddie isn’t even looking for a new job.
Here is the situation. Ed is the referee who handed the Denver Broncos a win last week against the San Diego Chargers by making arguably the worst call ever by an NFL referee. You probably saw it on the internet or on the TV, it was that blatant. After the game, Mr. Hochuli was heartsick over his mistake. He admitted he blew it. Even more, he is responding personally to each and every email that he has received from disgruntled fans. It’s thousands of emails. Unbelievable. He has had an awful week, by all accounts.
I’d hire him.

GL:
Who of us hasn’t made a glaring error of judgment in life? Fortunately, we haven’t fouled up on national television followed by re-runs and a special place on YouTube.
I’m hiring him. He’s a stand-up guy with character.
I just cited this post in response to a young manager’s question about whether it is advisable to admit your mistakes:

Thanks, GL.
I’d definitely hire Ed. If only we all could admit our mistakes that quickly and that honestly. Good for Ed.
Steve, Ed: I am glad to see you both had the same reaction as me.
If Martha Stewart followed this advice, she wouldn’t have done time.
The question was would I hire Mr. Hochuli?
I certainly reapect his actions to fully disclose and “own” his error, even more so to respond to the emails.
He would more likely recieve an invitation to speak to my organization about what he learned from the experience and his response, than to recieve an job offer.
