GL,

Haha. The Portland Blazers give out free Chalupa coupons if the team scores over 100 points in the game. People were literally chanting "Cha-Lu-Pa!"

Also, I've finally added you to my Google reader, so you'll be seeing more of me around here.

Congrats on the new book!

The New York Yankees can only charge for tickets to a game what people are willing to pay! Once people/fans and big companies as a group decide that they are not going to pay extremely high prices for tickets, then the ticket prices will come down.

It is all about supply and demand.

Just look at the price of gas the past few months. The demand was high, so the price was high. Once the recession went full speed and people starting losing their job and not spending much money and really not going anywhere anymore and really cutting back on the money the spend, the price of gas started coming down and coming down fast. Regular Gas in New Jersey a few days ago was at a mere $1.43 per gallon. That is close to $3.00 less per gallon compared to a few months ago when it was at an all time high.

Don't go blaming just the New York Yankees, blame the people who agree to pay vast sums of money to go to a game. So, everyone is to blame for the high cost of tickets. By the way, a family of 4 going to the New Yankee Stadium will pay between $500-$700 total for decent seats plus all expenses. That means transportation, tolls, gas, parking, tickets, food, beverages and souvenirs. And that is going budget, not anything really fancy. Parking will be $19 per car in 2009. A Large Souvenir Soda and 2 Hot Dogs will cost about $20. You can feed 3 or 4 people for that amount at McDonald's. Let's Go Yankees!!!!

I just attended my first pro-basketball game and while I had a good time, I couldn't help but notice how much of the "game" was spent blasting music, throwing out goodies and constantly running advertising. Only a small percentage of the focus was on the actual players playing the game. More people were rooting for a free Chalupa coupon than for the home team to win.

Why do we need to pay the players so much if the real point is the "experience" not the game?

It's sad that a working class man/woman can't take his/her kid(s) to a ball game anymore without having to take a serious look at his/her monthly budget first. Very sad.

Couldn't agree more! "Shorting" entertainers and entertainment is overdue. People spend WAY more watching others' activity instead of doing an activity themselves. There will always be a large element of that in society, but the trend and the dollars have to swing the other way for a while. The current situation is definitely at an extreme.

Big time agreement! If no one shows up, I guess they change.

Remember when it was about the game, GL? As kids, we just wanted to be Yankees, me pitching, you catching and hitting. What marvelous dreams! I wonder if that is how kids still feel...or, do they just want to make a lot of money.

I definitely agree. That's an obscene amount of money. Interesting what will happen with the economy, and if it will have an adverse effect on sports teams like that.

of course, a box seat at yankee stadium definitely has snob appeal. Which is how they can price it so incredibly high. Like those ugly Louis Vuitton purses.
