I work in academia and we will be presenting a diversity training to Dept.Heads soon and one of the
activities one of our professors suggested was looking at the questions. This is a very timely find for this session. To think that an old tale states that "curiosity killed the cat" and yet it is the curiosity that may be able to cure our ills in communication. The piece I discovered here is that many folks leave trainings and go back to work with "so what now" after the leadership trainings. I needed to be reminded that this is always a journey and process that develops over time. Thank-you

[...] Ed. Note: Gary Cohen is a friend of mine here in Minnesota. He is a proven entrepreneur, one of the companies he started went from two employees to over 2,000. Seriously. He is a thoughtful, interesting guy to say the least. As he was developing his business, he discovered how important being a leader was instead of just being a manager. That started him off on a lifetime of learning about leadership. His study of leadership took him on an interesting nearly three year journey that culminated with the publication Read more at http://blogs.jobdig.com/wwds/2009/08/15/the-backstory-how-one-new-author-got-his-book-published-by-m...
I have come up with an interesting model that you can look at to help your men-tees get this concept of leadership. Go to my site and down load the PDF Brochurehttp://www.co2partners.com/executive-coaching/coaching_contact_gary.html.

These learning challenges are both a blessing and a curse. Just depends where you are in the process.

Gary, Incidentally, I had learning difficulty too and had to take my High School Diploma examinations twice before I could pass. My subsequent formal education too was not easy but, providence played a major role in my having to struggle with it and come out of it.
Gary, unfortunately, I am retired from active business life. I however mentor three young entrepreneurs. I have been a great advocate of Managing by wandering around for quite some time and part of that is of course the asking questions aspect. I however find with my mentees that while they are willing to do the wandering they indulge more in telling than asking. I have just had a session with one of them and read out parts of the interview. He seems to be amazed that entrepreneurs in the USA like you and GL too have problems similar to the ones he has here. The difficulty is in getting these youngsters to understand the differences between entrepreneurship, management and leadership. I am trying to get them to understand but it is an uphill task. There seems to be a mental block when it comes to playing leadership roles and understanding the concept behind it. There is an unfortunate situation here in that a leader is called a NETA, and it has now become a derogatory term for sleazy politicians. I am however battling the block. I eagerly await McGraw Hill India's Indian edition.

Thank you all for your most interesting comments supporting GL's masterful skill as both a writer and interviewer. What struck you as new and interesting in specific in this interview? What new discovery did you have for yourself? How will you use that to further what you do?
